Tatev  monastery is situated near the village of the same name in part of Zangezur – ancient Syunik. The monastery was founded in the ninth century in place of a tabernacle well-known in ancient times. The strategically advantageous location on a cape formed by a deep river gorge with precipitous rocky slopes favored the construction of a mighty defense complex there.

Off-grid city of the future – Tokyo


Residents of Kanagawa, one Tokyo’s adjoining prefectures, will doubtless be pleased to hear today that they’re to get a shiny new high-tech neighbor in the form of a futuristic smart town being built in Fujisawa City, 50 kilometers west of the capital.

The project, led by Panasonic and including eight other firms, will see Fujisawa Sustainable Smart Town spring up on 19 hectares of land that will become home to some 3,000 people by March 2014.

The MIDI Festival, China’s largest and longest running rock music event, finally came to Shanghai this past weekend.

Although Friday’s headliner Mr. Big cancelled their show, crowds of music fans gathered in Century Park to rock out at the Tang Stage, dance at the Antidote stage, browse the goods on sale at the market and simply picnic with friends in the park.
